Although better known for its fine blues albums, the Delmark label also covers
a fair amount of jazz as well. This release by clarinetist Norrie Cox is a case
in point. Cox grew up in England during the heyday of the traditional jazz boom
of the fifties. Now a Milwaukee resident, he is busy promoting Dixieland style
jazz through various groups including one band made up of inner city teenagers.
This recording features a more mature lineup. The music is pure Dixieland and
with a repertoire that will be familiar to any aficionado of the genre. Though
there are no surprises here it is nevertheless a very enjoyable CD.
